Stainless steel in contemporary architecture

The very important, yearly stainless steel seminar took place on 30 May 2012 in Poland at the Poznan’s Metalforum Trade Fairs.

For the first time they had the opportunity to promote the new Polish Stainless Steel Development Association SSN (Stowarzyszenie Stal Nierdzewna). At their stand at the fair they had a chance to talk about stainless steel in Poland with the President of Poland, Mr Bronislaw Komorowski.

The main subject for this year’s seminar was Architecture, Building and Construction.

The seminar programme was as follows:

  • Jan Myczkowski (SSN) – welcome and short introduction
  • Shane McAleavy (consultant -UK) – “Stainless Steel – the next 100 years”
  • Izabela Dors-Wolak (Aperam) – “Stainless steel - an innovative product in the roofing and cladding systems”
  • Tomasz Nowacki ( Nowa Trading) – “Use of large and small goods made of stainless steel in architectural composition”
  • Keith Wilson (Rimex) - “Aestetic stainless steel finishes for architectural applications”
  • Krzysztof Lenartwicz (architect) and Czeslaw Dzwigaj (sculptor) – case study: steel arch of the monument dedicated to Colonel Kuklinski
  • Tomasz Kalko (Pruszyński) – stainless steel in architecture and building
  • Dariusz Zołna (ThyssenKrupp Stainless) – Vivinox in contemporary architecture.

There were more than 100 participants representing key market players: producers, distributors and end-users but also university representatives and students, investors and architects.

The meeting gathered a number of specialists from Poland which pointed out the very high level of the presented materials. The seminar is considered as essential event on the local stainless market.
